Where to start

Although it doesn’t carry the same range or depth of benefits as exercise, physical activity alone is a very beneficial bedrock. Choosing to moving more represents everybody’s first step in the right direction.

Build A Strong Base: Be Active

Being physically active provides a powerful platform of positives; boosting your muscles, mobility, metabolism, and mood.

What’s Physical Activity? Anything in a ‘steady state’ that gets your body moving, such as: Walking / Gardening / House work / Shopping.

Aim To Do: As much as you feel capable of. Try to be as active as possible on a daily basis – all movement makes a difference and every step counts!

4 Top Tips To Be More Active

Habits and behaviours to help increase activity.

1) Wake & Walk: Begin your days in the best possible way by going for a 20-30 minute morning walk – Walking at a brisk pace is as effective as a jog.

2) Use The 20 Minute Transportation Rule: If you’re going somewhere within a 20 minute walk – Choose to transport yourself rather than being transported!

3) Have Some Hobbies: Any type of hobby, such as golf, bowling, or pickleball make movement more fun, sociable, and they help keep the mind engaged.

4) See The Sun As A sign: Use the sun as a signal to get out and do some activity – Vitamin D is brilliant for bones, blood, energy, and happiness.

Defining The Difference

Simply put, activity is any movement in a ‘steady state’, whereas exercise is any movement that ‘stimulates and strengthens’. The R.P.E scale indicates the difference in intensity, and represents a good reference point for how hard you should be working.
